Hartigan's, a multidisciplinary consulting company in Jersey undertook a project to convert Silversprings, a 101 bedroom hotel into a care home. The project involved complete re-wiring, interior makeover, re-plumbing and complete new heating system in the bedrooms and main reception/office area.
Hartigans were looking for a system that could be installed quickly, easily and without much disruption to the existing floor as well as providing a primary source of heat. Warm water underfloor heating was out of the question for this particular project as the expense of ripping out the existing floors and replacing them would have been too great. The floor levels would also have been increased by too much if were installing the system as a retrofit. Standard cables could not be used due to the final floorings that were to be used in the project.
Silversprings had a mixture of floor finishes of vinyl and carpet. The electric ribbon underfloor heating system was ideal as it could be used under all types of flooring. It was an added benefit that the mats are strong and hardwearing, so if damaged, (and on commercial projects, this can happen!) the mats could be repaired at very little cost, easily and quickly unlike standard cable systems.
The project consisted of the following materials:
Hartigans were very happy with the outcome of the system, the technical knowledge and backup. They were amazed that even before the building was fully sealed, the Ribbon Heating mats were still producing a high level of heat. Since then Hartigans has recommended us to surrounding companies and the staff have bought for their own homes!
